Etymology: In reference to Patagonia, a southern region in South America, and Greek, emys, "pond turtle."

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Zulma Gasparini, palaeontologist at the Facultad de Ciencias Naturales y Museo, La Plata, Argentina.

Etymology: In reference to Aechylus (525-455 BC), an ancient Greek writer often described as the father of tragedy. During a visit to the city of Gela (Italy), he was killed outside the city by tortoise dropped by and eagle, which had mistaken his bald head for a rock suitable for shattering the shell.
