Etymology: In reference to the provincial park of Talampaya, La Rioja, Argentina.

Holotype: PULR (Universidad Nacional de La Rioja, UPVLR) 68

Locality: Between Quebrada de Los Jachaleros and La Esquina, about 6 km west of the 141 km marker, route 26, provincial park of Talampaya, La Rioja Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Los Colorados Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Norian, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Skull and articulated skeleton, complete except for central part of the carapace.

Referred material:

PULR (UPVLR) 69: Endocranial cast, the right foot and fragment of the carapace and plastron.

PULR 72: Skull and the anterior portion of a jaw.
