Genus: Gehennachelys ADRIAN, SMITH & NOTO, 2023
Etymology: Gehenna refers to the biblical lake of fire and brimstone, connoting teh sulphur content in teh deposits where teh holotype was discovered, and the massive wildfires that were pprevalent in the area during teh Cenomanina, and Greek, chelys, "turtle."

Etymology: In honor of the late Dr. Derek Main, for his vision and dedicated study and management of the AAS fossil collections.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Cenomanian Stage, Upper Gallic subepoch, Lowest Gulf Epoch, Late Early to Early Middle Cretaceous.
