Genus: Cryptochersis SZCZYGIELSKI & DROZDZ, 2026
Etymology: Greek, krupotos, "hidden" and Greek, khersis, "tortoise", per analogy to Proterochersis. The name refers to the previously unrecognized proterochersid affinity of the genus.

Greek,paraxene, "strange" in reference to the unique morphology of teh posterior plastral lobe of that species.

Locality: Fleming Fjord, Ørsted Dal, turtle locality (Stairmaster Quarry, establisehd from cap XI), in Aerenpristal, northeast Greenland Naional Park, 71°32.611'N, 22°55.307W, Jameson Land, East Greenland.
