Genus: Bashuchelys TONG, DANILOV, YE, OUYANG & PENG, 2012
Etymology: Bashu means Bashan (Ba Mountain) in the Chongqing area and Shushui (the river system on the plain of Sichuan); alternative Chinese name for Sichuan-Chongqing area, and Greek, chelys, "turtle."

Etymology: Zigong- for Zigong Prefecture, Sichuan Province, home of the Dashanpu locality, and Latin, ensis, "belong to, from."

Holotype: CMNH C.1001 (ChM V 00678 YE, 1982)

Locality: Dashanpu (Dashanpu Dinosaur Quarry), lat. 29°5’N, long. 104°50’E, situated 11 km east of Zigong City, 250 km south of Chengdu, Hechuan County, Sichuan Basin, Sichuan (Szechwan) Province, China.

Horizon: Xaishaximiao (Shaximiao) Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Bathonian-Callovian Stage (DONG & TANG, 1984), Middle-Upper Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.
Note: Bajocian (CHEN et al. 1982), Lower Middle Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.

Material: A nearly complete carapace and plastron.

Etymology: In honor of Yang Zhong-Jian (C.C. Young) who first studied Jurassic turtles from the Sichuan Basin.

Holotype: ZDM 3007 (field number ZDM 1)

Locality: Dashanpu (Dashanpu Dinosaur Quarry), lat. 29°5’N, long. 104°50’E, situated 11 km east of Zigong City, 250 km south of Chengdu, Hechuan County, Sichuan Basin, Sichuan (Szechwan) Province, China.

ZDM 3003: A shell with articulated carapace and plastron, carapace surface damaged, plastron lacking anterior and posterior ends.

ZDM 3006 (field number ZDM 7): Shell wiht articulated damaged carapace and plastron.

ZDM 3008 (field number ZDM 3): Posterior half of plastron.
