Etymology: In honor of Dr. S. H. Rubidge, who prepared the specimen found by Mr. JC. J. Kitching.

Etymology: Latin, atrox, 'ferocious, cruel'.

Holotype: RC 13

Locality: Farm Doorsfontein, about 18 miles west of New Bethesda Commonage, Graaff Reinet District, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa.

Material: Skull and mandible, distal end of humerus and other fragments of skeleton.
