Etymology: With reference to the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the specimen was found.

Species: guaibensis BONAPARTE, FERIGOLO & RIBEIRO, 2001
Etymology: With reference to the Guaiba Basin, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil, where the material was collected.

Holotype: MCN-PV 2264

Locality: Sesmaria do Pinhal 1 outcrop, 8 km west of Candelaria City, in a cutting on the road (BR 287) to Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Upper Santa Maria Formation (Caturrita Formation?).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Ladinian Substage Late Landian Stage, Uppermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic, or ?Julian Substage, ?Early Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Anterior portion of the skull, from the tip of the fronto-parietal contact, with complete dentition.

Referred material:

MCN-PV 2265: An almost complete left lower jaw with complete dentition lacking the postdentary bones.

MCN-PV 2271: Fragment of the middle portion of right lower jaw, with 3 postcanies.

Locality: Linha Sao Luiz Locality, an abandoned quarry located 1.5 km northwest of downtown do Soturno Faxinal, 53°30'23"E, 29°34'08"S, near Barrio Santo Antonino, Faxinal do Soturno, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Caturrita Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Icidosaur Assemblage Zone.

Age: Adamanian, Lower Coloradian age, Late Carnian-Early Norian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Locality: Sacisaurus Site, Inside of the urban area of Agudo, 19°43'12"S, 47°45'04"W, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Corresponds to the top of the Alemoa Member, Santa Maria Formation, and to the Caturrita Fromation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Carnian Stage-Early Norian Stage, Early to Middle Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material:

MCN-PV10204: Isolated postcaine tooth.
