Etymology: In reference to the Redonda Formation, Late Triassic and Greek, gnathus, "jaw."

Etymology: In honor of Adrian P. Hunt, for his extensive collecting and resarch within the Redonda Fromation and across the Triassic outcrops of east-central New Mexico.

Holotype: YPM 4227

Locality: Quarry 2 of J. T. Gregory, (YPM locality 6649, UCMP locality 6148, NMMNH locality 485), NE 1/4, NE 1/4, NW 1/4 Section 3, T8N, R33E, Apache 7.5’ 1971, Apache Canyon, Quay County, East-Central New Mexico.

Horizon: Lower Duke Ranch Member, Upper Redonda Formation, Chinle Group.

Biostratigraphy: Apachean characteristic assemblage.

Age: Apachean, Late Norian Stage- Rhaetian Stage, Upper Late Triassic Epoch, Late Late Triassic.

Material: Slightly worn postcanine tooth.
