Etymology: Greek, nanos, "dwarf," Greek, gomphios, "molar" and Greek, odon, "tooth"; Dwarf molar tooth.

Etymology: In honor of our friend and colleague Rupert Wild (Staatliches Museum für Naturkunde Stuttgart), in recognition of his many contributions to our understanding of Triassic tetrapods.

Holotype: SMNS 51962

Locality: Housing development "Leitenacker II" in Michelbach an der Bilz, Baden-Württemberg State, Germany.

Horizon: Sandige Pflanzenschiefer, lower Lettenkeuper (lower Keuper or Erfurt Formation).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Ladinian Stage, Upper Mid Triassic Epoch, Late Middle Triassic.

Material: Left lower postcanine tooth lacking apical portion of the root.
