Etymology: In reference to the Karroo Basin, South Africa + Walteria: To replace the preoccupied Walteria Brink & Kitching, 1951, alluding to the Karroo region of South Africa, where the fossil was found.

Etymology: In honor of Alex J. Walter Skinner, who brought the specimen to the Bernard Price Institute, Johannesburg, South Africa.

Locality: Elandsfontein, Beaufort west, Western Cape Province, South Africa.

Horizon: Middle Abrahamskraal Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Base of the Tapinocephalus zone (Dinocephalian zone KEYSER, 1979, SACS, 1980, KEYSER & SMITH, 1977-78, Lower Tapinocephalus zone, KITCHING, 1970, 1977, WATSON, 1914).

Age: Early Tatarian age, Guadelupian Stage, Middle Zeichstein Epoch, Middle Permian.

Material: Fragmentary skull.

Note: Original assignation of the locality to Farm Vleifontein, 20 miles east of Lainsburg, was made in error.
