Genus: Charruodon ABDALA & RIBEIRO, 2000
Etymology: In honor of the Charruas, a native South American tribe that lived in southern Brazil, and Greek, odon, “tooth”: Charruas tooth.

Species: tetracuspidatus ABDALA & RIBEIRO, 2000
Etymology: In reference to the four-cusped crown morphology.

Holotype: MCP-3934 PV

Locality: Approximately 8 km west of the city of Candelaria, 29°42’07.44”S, 52°51’43.95”W, Rio Grande do Sul State, southern Brazil.

Horizon: Santa Maria Formation (Caturrita Formation?).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Ladinian Substage Late Landian Stage, Uppermost Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic, or ?Julian Substage, ?Early Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Fragment of the left dentary horizontal ramus, with alveoli for 3 incisors, roots of the canine and 3 postcanines, and a 5th tooth with a well-preserved crown.
