Etymology: Brasil, and Greek, therium, "mammal": Mammal from Brazil.

Species: riograndensis BONAPARTE, MARTINELLI, SCHULTZ & RUBERT, 2003
Etymology: In reference to the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the holotype was found.

Holotype: UFRGS PV 0694 T

Locality: Linha Sao Luiz Locality, an abandoned quarry located 1.5 km northwest of downtown do Soturno Faxinal, 53°30'23"E, 29°34'08"S, near Barrio Santo Antonino, Faxinal do Soturno, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil.

Horizon: Caturrita Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Icidosaur Assemblage Zone.

Age: Adamanian, Late Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skull without most of the zygomatic arches, the occiput and the basicranium, articulated with the complete left lower jaw and the incomplete right lower jaw.

UFRGS PV 0595 T: Fragment of maxilla with 2 PC associated with a fragment of dentary with the last 2 pc.

UFRGS PV 0598 T: Incomplete maxilla, lower jaws, and fragmentary postcranial bones.

UFRGS PV 0603 T: An incomplete dentary with 2 alveolie for anterior pc and six complete pe.

UFRGS PV 0759 T: Represented by 2 incomplete maxillae with partial dentition and 2 incomplete dentaries with most of thier teeth.

UFRGS PV0760T: Incomplete skull with articulated lower jaws, incompletepectora girdle and humerus.
