Genus: Andescynodon BONAPARTE, 1967
Etymology: In reference to the Andes Mountains, a feature of the region where the fossil was found in South America, and Greek, kyn- (kyos), “dog”, Greek, odon, “tooth”: Andes cynodont.

Etymology:

Holotype: PVL 3833

Locality: 5 km to the west of Villa de Potrerillos, Mendoza Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Cerro de las Cabras Formation (old Middle or Upper Rio Mendoza Formation).

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Anisian Stage/Early Ladinian Stage, Mid Triassic Epoch, Middle Triassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull.

PVL 3836: Skull lacking the anterior portion of the muzzle and the left zygomatic arch, postcranial elements, some of them in a nodule.
