Etymology: Latin, breviceps, "short" and Latin, -ceps-, "head."

Holotype: GMG 10

Locality: From the border area between Yunnan and Guizhou Provinces, southwest China.

Horizon: Upper Member, Guanling Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Early Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: Nearly complete skull and skeleton.
