Genus: Qianxisaurus CHENG, WU, SATO & SHAN, 2012
Etymology: Chinese pingying, 'Qianx', meaing the western part of the Guizhou
Province, in which the fossil was located, and Greek, sauros, 'lizard'.
Species: chajiangensis CHENG, WU, SATO & SHAN, 2012
Etymology: In reference to Chajinang near which the speicmen was collected.
Holotype: NMNS-KIKO-F044630
Locality: Chajiang, near the Huangnihe River, Xingyi, Guizhou Province, China.
Horizon: Zhuganpo Member, Falang Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Ladinian Stage, Upper Mid-Triassic Epoch, Late Middle Triassic.
Material: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
