Etymology: In reference to the supercontinent Gondwana and Greek, nectes, “swimmer”.

Etymology: In reference to Osvaldo Rojas, director of MUHNCAL and discoverer of the specimen, honoring his permanent work in preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the Atacama Desert in northern Chile.

Holotype: MUHNCAL 20173

Locality: Ojo Opache, west Calana, Regionde Antofagasta, northern Chile.

Horizon: Quehuita Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Giebeli Zone.

Age: Lower Bajocian Stage, Middle Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.

Material: Fragmentary skeleton.
