Etymology: Chinese, meili, "beautiful", Chinese, fei, "fly" and Chinese, long, "dragon"; meaning beautifly flying dragon in allusion to the magnificent preservation of teh holotype, IVP V 16059.

Etymology: Youhao, meaning friendshp in mandarian, to celebrtae teh two-decade continous collaboration btween Chinese and Brazilian Paleontologist in pterosaur research since 2003.

Holotype: IVPP V 16059

Locality: Xiaotaizi, Huludao City, Jianchang County, western Liaoning Province, China.

Horizon: Jiufotang Formation, Jehol Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Barremian-Aptian Stage, Middle Gallic Subepoch, Upper Early Cretaceous Epoch, Early Cretaceous.

Maaterial: Skull and nearly complete skeleton.
