Genus: Gorgosaurus LAMBE, 1914
Etymology: Greek, gorgos “swift, fierce” and Greek, sauros “lizard”, fierce lizard.

Holotype: CMN 2120

Locality: 3 1/2 miles below the mouth of Berry Creek, on the south side of the Red Deer River, near prairie level, Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta Province, Canada.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Judithian age, Middle Campanian Stage, middle Senonian subepoch, upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Almost complete skull and lower jaws, skeleton lacking cervicals and some dorsal vertebrae.
Note: Palaeopathology, bite makrs on the dentary (BROWN, CURRIE & THERRIEN, 2021), the right dorsal rib 3, gastralia 13 and 14, and left fibula have healed fractures, the left metatarsal IV is apparently diseased, with roughened exostoses on the lateral surface at midshaft and distally, the third phalanx of right pedal digit III is deformed and the claw of digit is ‘quite small and amorphous (MOLNAR, 1981)
