Etymology: In reference to Chubut, Argentina, where the specimen was found and Greek, -nectes, "swimmer."

Etymology: In honor of Carmelo Munoz, the owner of Puesto Los Colorados, who discovered the holotype specimen.

Holotype: MPEF-PV 5232

Locality: Puesto Los Colorados, Somun Cura Plateau, 42°49'36.63"S, 68°26'43.12"W, Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: La Colonia Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Maastrichtian stage, Late Senonian Subepoch, Late Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Cervical, pectoral, dorsal, sacral and caudal centra, neural arches, dorsal, sacral and caudal ribs, left scapula, both coracoids, left ilium, left pubis, humera, femora, radius, carpal elements, metacarpal, tibia, fibula tarsal elements, metatarsals and phalanges.
