Etymology: Greek, platys, "wide" and Greek, suchus Latinized form of Greek soukhos, "crocodile": in reference to the flattened, expanded osteoderms and dermal shield.

Referred material:

= Teleosaurinae gen. sp indet BERCKHEMER, 1929 (moved to Platysuchus multiscrobiculatus by Buffrenile et al 2015).
