Genus: Bretesuchus GASPARINI, FERNANDEZ & POWELL, 1993
Etymology: In reference to Brete, from the name of El Brete ranch, Candelaria Department, Salta Province, Northwestern Argentina and Greek suchus, "crocodile."

Species: bonaparte GASPARINI, FERNANDEZ & POWELL, 1993
Etymology: In honor of Jose Bonaparte.

Holotype: PVL 4735

Locality: Right margin of Gonzalez stream, flowing into Clavizan river, El Brete Ranch, Candelaria Department, Salta Province, Northwestern Argentina.

Horizon: Maiz Gordo Formation, Santa Barbara Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Paleocene Epoch, Lower Paleogene Period, Lower Tertiary Subera, Cenozoic Era.

Material: Skull and jaw partially complete.
