Etymology: Tendaguru, name of a dinosaur site situated in southeastern Tanzania, East Africa, Greek, odon (odous, odontos), “tooth”: Tendaguru tooth.

Species: janenschi HEINRICH, 1998
Etymology: In honor of Werner Janensch (1878-1969), leader of the German Tendaguru expedition who provided outstanding contributions to understanding African Dinosaurs.

Holotype: MB. Ma.46911

Locality: Tendaguru site Jg, Tendaguru, southeastern Tanzania, East Africa.

Horizon: Tendaguru Series, Middle Saurian Bed.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Kimmerdigian-Tithonian Stage, Middle-Late Malm Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: A right lower cheek tooth.
