Etymology: In honor of Osvaldo A. Reig, student of evolution and promoter of research on Mesozoic vertebrates in Argentina, Greek, therion, “beast, mammal”: Reig’s beast.

Holotype: MACN-RN 173

Locality: West slope of Cerro Cuadrado, Arroyo Verde, Rio Negro province, Patagonia, Argentina.

Horizon: Top of the Cerrito del Mamifero, middle section of the Los Alamitos Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Allenian Tetrapoda Assemblage, Late Campanian-Early Maastrichtian Stage, Senonian Subepoch, Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: A complete crown of a left upper molar.

Locality: Southern slopes of the North Patagonian Massif (“Comarca Nordpatagonica” or “Meserta de Somuncura”), north-central Chubut Province, Patagonia, Argentina.
