Etymology: Greek, mega, "large" and Latin, cornus, "cusp"; in reference to the single hypertrophied anterior cusp of the lower premolars.

Etymology: mammaliaformis; in reference to ancestral mammalina features.

Holotype: PMOL AM00007A, AM00007B

Locality: Daohugou, Ningcheng County, Inner Mongolia, China.

Horizon: Tiaojishan Formation.

Biostragraphy:

Age: Bathonian Stage, Middle Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.

Material: In situ dentition, mandibles, and associated mandibular middle ear, and msot of the postcranial skeleton.
