Genus: Maastrichtidelphys MARTIN, CASE, JAGT, SCHULP & MULDER, 2005
Etymology: In reference to the provenance of Maastricht, Limburg Province, The Netherlands where the specimens were found and Greek, delphys, "womb" and its relationships to the opossums.

Species: meurismetorum emend MARTIN, CASE, JAGT, SCHULP & MULDER, 2005
Etymology: In honor of Roland Meuris and Frans Smet, who collected the sample and recognized the specimen, respectively. Since the authors named the species after two people, Roland Meuris and Frans Smet, the proper ending is -orum, not -i and is here corrected

Locality: ENCI-Maastricht B.V. quarry, 54°49’N, 5°41’E, 3 km S of Maastricht, Limburg Province, The Netherlands.

Horizon: Lanaye Member, Gulpen Formation.

Biostratigraphy: Belemnitella junior Cephalopod zone.

Age: Maastrichtian Age, Upper Senonian Subepoch, Upper Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Right M2.
