Etymology: Tamb-refres to the Tambach Formation in which the holotype was found,
and Greek, aroter, "plowman."

Etymolgy: In honor of Robert L. Carroll, for his seminal work on microsaurs.

Locality: From a supermarket excavation site in Tambach-Dietharz, Thuringian Forest, Thuringia State, central Germany.
Horizon: Lowermost portion of the Finsterbergen conglomerate, Tambach Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Wolfcampian, Lowermost unit of the upper Rotliegend Epoch, Early Permian.
Material: Nearly complete skull.
