Etymology: In reference to Yuanan County, Hubei Province, China, where the fossils were collected; and Latin, suchus, 'crocodile'.

Etymology: Latin, latus, "broad" and Latin, ceps, "head."

Holotype: IVPP V 13463

Locality: Maopingchang, Yuanan County, Hubei Province, China.

Horizon: Xinlingzhen Formation, Badong Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Ansian Stage, Lower Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: A nearly complete skull.
