Etymology: Latin, Amnicola, “living in or next to the river’ the later being a reference to the river bed in Pastos Bons where the holotype was found and also to the presumed aquatic habits of the stem tetrapod.

Horizon: Lower Pedra do Fogo Formation.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Cisuralian (same as Rotliegendes Epoch) Epoch, Lower Permian.
Material: Nearly complete left mandible.
