Etymology: In reference to the Sahara Desert, and Greek, stege, "roof."

Etymology: In reference to the Moradi Formation from which the fossil was recovered, and Latin, ensis, meanign place or locality.

Holotype: MNN MOR73

Locality: A locality 18°47.515'N, 7°11.160'E, near Ibadanane, approximately 20 km west of Arlit, Agades Department, north-central Niger.

Horizon: Reddish-brown mudstones, Moradi Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Late Permian.

Material: Nearly complete skull lacking lower jaws.
