Etymology: Latin, austium, "mouth of a river or stream"; referring to Burnmouth.

Holotype: UMZC 2015.30

Locality: Burnmouth Ross end shore exposure, East Kirkton, near Bathgate, West Lothian Province, Scotland.

Horizon: 373.95m above the base of the Ballagana Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Mid-Tournaisian Epoch, earliest Mississippian Sub-Epoch (North America), earliest Carboniferous.

Material: Partial skull and scattered postcrania visible only in micro-CT scan.
