Etymology: In reference to the nearby town of Abi Adi, Tigray Province, Ethiopia and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: Abi Adi Lizard.

Etymology: In recognition of Dr. Karen Witten’s dedication and commitment to the health and care of the people of Tigray, Ethiopia.

Holotype: National Museum, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, (cast UCMP 154459)

Locality: UCMP V97009, red and green variegated mudstones exosed at the base of the cliff-forming Adigrat Sandstone, 15 km northwest of Abi Adi, Tigray Province, Ethiopia.
