Etymology: "Baise" indicates the province of the only known specimen of the genus, which was discovered in Zhebao Township in Baise City, Guangxi Province, China and Greek, sauros, "lizard."

Etymology: Latin, robustus, "robust."

Holotype: CUGW VH107

Locality: Northwest margin of the Nanpanjiang Basin, Zhebao Township, Longlin County, Baise City, Guangxi Province, China.

Horizon: Upper part of teh LuolouFormation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Spathian Stage, Upper Scythian/Early Triassic Epoch, Late Early Triassic.

Material: A partial associated postcranial skeleton.
