Etymnology: Named for temnospondyl, the inferred tracemaker, Latin, corpus, "body" and Greek, ichnos, "trace."

Etymology: In honor of Isaac Lea, who in 1849 discovered and preported one of the earliest tetrapod footprings, Paleosauropus primaevus, in the same stratigraphic unit and in the same vicinity as the Temnocorpichnus type locality.

Holotype: RPM 77-32-1

Locality: Mount Carbon-Tumbling Run Reservoir area, near Pottsville, Schuylkill County, Pennsulvania.

Horizon: Indian Run Member, Mauch Chunk Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Visean Epoch, Middle Mississippian Subperiod, Lower Carboniferous Period.

Material: 3 body resting traces in convex hyporelief.
