Etymology: Latin, Tatar, referring to a native of Tartary or the Mongolian region (Tatar is the correct form of the corrupted word "tartar"), Latin, ornis, "bird" and Latin, pes, "foot."

Ichnospecies: chabuensis LOCKLEY, LI, MATSUKAWA, & LI, 2012
Etymology: In reference to the Chabu area, central Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongol), China,where the prints were found.

Holotype: EG BT 001

Locality: Chabu site 4, central Inner Mongolia (Nei Mongol), China.

Horizon: Jingchuan Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Early Cretaceous.

Material: A plaster replica of the holotype is available for comparative study as specimen CU 214.184.
