Ichnogenus: Carmelopodus LOCKLEY, HUNT, PAQUETTE, BILBEY & HAMBLIN, 1998
Etymology: Meaning footprint from the Carmel Formation, and Greek, podus, "foot."

Ichnospecies: untermannorum LOCKLEY, HUNT, PAQUETTE, BILBEY & HAMBLIN, 1998
Etymology: In honor of Billie Rupel Untermann and George Ernest Untermann Jr. and their contributions to the geology of northeast Utah.

Holotype: CU-MWC 184.12

Locality: Southeast of Quarry at Dinosaur National Monument (exact locality on file at CU Denver, and at Utah Field House of Natural History, Vernal), Jensen County, Utah.

Horizon: Resistant sandstone in upper part of Carmel Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Bajocian-Bathonian Stage, Middle Dogger Epoch, Middle Jurassic.

Material: A replica of the first three footprints in a partial trackway of 5 consecutive tracks. The 4th partial footprint in sequence was also collected and is designated as CU-MWC 184.12a.
