Etymology: Latin, cavus, "hollow" for the labial concavity displayed by the teeth and Greek, odous, "tooth."
Species: whitei ITANO, 2023
Etymology: In honor of Mr. Larry White of Russellville, Alabama, USA, collector of several significant chondrichthyan fossils fro the Bangor Limestone, including the holotype of Cavusodous whitei.
Holotype: ALMNH PAleo: 20409
Locality: Locality 1, near the shore of Little Bear Creek Reservoir, Franklin County, Alabama.
Horizon: Limestone bed of the Bangor Limestone.
Biostratigraphy:
Age: Gasperian-Hombergian (early-Middle Chsterian) Stage= Lae Visean-early Serpuknovian Epoch, Late Mississippian Sub-period, Late Early Carboniferous Period.
Material: Tooth lacking part of the base.
