Etymlogy: Greek, archaeo, "ancient, antique", and a combination of Latin, gracilis, "slender' in allusion to the very slencer crowns in anterior teeth, and Latin, dentis, which is the genative singular of 'dens' (m.), "tooth", in allusion to the high number os species based on teeth alonge.
