Etymology: In reference to Chahuaqing, the fossil site, Luquan County, Yunnan Province, China and Greek, lepis, "scale": Broad scale.

Species: magniporus LIU, PAN, ZHU & ZHAO, 2023
Etymology: Latin, magnus, "large" and Latin, porus, "pore"; highlighting the large orbital fenestra of the species.

Holotype: IVPP V13772.1

Locality: Chahuaqing area, Luquan County, 60 km north of Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China.

Horizon: Ganglishu Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Middle Devonian.

Material: An incomplete headshield.

Paratype:

IVPP V13772.2: Preserved as internal and external molds, missing the lateral margins.
