Genus: Toarcocephalus COOPER, LOPEZ-ARBARELLO & MAXWELL, 2024
Etymology: Generic name chosen for its discovery in Toarcian-aged strata, and Greek, cephalus, "head", denoting teh dignostic cranium.

Etymology: naed after teh savage subterranean antagonists in H. G. Wells' The Time Machine (1895), due to thier similarly grotesque appearance characterised by large eyes, a blunt face and pointed teeth.

Holotype: SMNS 59978

Locality: G. Fischer Quarry, Holzmaden, Badden-Wurttemberg State, Germany.

Horizon: Posidonienschiefer Formation.

Biostratigraphy: semicelatum Subzone, tenuicostatum Zone.

Age: Lower Toarcian Stage, Lias Epoch, Late Jurassic.

Material: A near-complete and articualted skul, missing the pre-orbital region.

Partype: SMNS 52044: An articualted skull with associated postcranial fragmetns preserved as a regurgitalite.
