Etymology: In reference to the Tatarstan Republic in the Federtion of Russia, and Greek, ichthys, "fish".

Etymology: IN honor of our friend and colleague, the Russian paleoichthyologist Alexandre Bannikov.

Holotype: CLC S-1981

Locality: Dichiye Gory, Kama River, Tatarstan Republic.

Horizon: P2.
