Etymology: Greek, ramfos (rhamphos), "beak" and Greek, ichthys, "fish."

Species: taxidiotis HOSSNY, CAVIN, KAPLAN, SCHWERMANN, SAMANKASSOU & FRIEDMAN, 2023
Etymology: Greek, taxidiotis, "traveller". The combination makes it 'the traveller fish with a beak', reflecting the long rostrum and wide geographical distribution of this presumably pelagic taxon.

Holotype: WMNM P 48342

Locality: Halle, Westphalia State, Germany.

Horizon: Hesseltal Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Lowermost horizon of upper Cenomanian Stage, Gallic Subepoch, Earliest Gulf Epoch, Middle Cretaceous.

Material: Articulated skul and highly distrupted postcranium.

Referred material:

WMNM P 48344: Damaged skull with intact postcranium.

WMNM P 64279: Incomplete skull and postcranium.

 

Locality: Haqel, Lebanon.

Horizon: Sannine Limestone Formation.
