Genus: Nusaviichthys ALVARADO-ORTEGA & ALVES, 2022
Etymology: Nusavi refers to the orignal name of the Mixtec people, which in thier language is 'Nuu dzhaui' or 'Nuu savi' and means "the people of teh rain." The combination of this word and Greek, ichthyes, "fish": fish of the people of the rain.

Species: nerivelai ALVARADO-ORTEGA & ALVES, 2022
Etymology: In honor of the first Mexican astronaut, Dr. Rodolfo Neri Vela. Together the generic and specific names mean "The Neri Vela's fish of the people of teh rain."

Locality: IGM-locality 2772, Tlayua Quarry, 2 km southeast of the Colonia Morelos, near Tepexi de Rodriguez, Puebla State, Mexico.

Horizon: Middle member of the Tlayua Formation.
