Etymology: In reference to San Juan County, Utah, where the new species was recovered.

Locality: Big Indian Wash (west of big Indiana Road), and near Big Indian Rock (east of Big Indian Road), Lisbon Valley, San Juan County, Utah.

Horion: Church Rock Member, Chinle Formation.

Age: Norian Stage, Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Nearly complete specimen.

Paratype:

AMNH 5679: Skull and anterior part of body.

AMNH 5690: Specimen with incomplete skull lacking caudal fin.

Locality: Locality B, near Bedrock, Dolores River Canyon, Montrose County, Colorado.

Horizon: Upper part of the Chinle Formation.

Etymology: In referece to the Parnaiba Basin, where the type specime was collected.

Locality: Fazenda Muzinho Shale, 16 km northest of Floriano city, Floriano-Amarante Road, Paranaiba Basin, Piaui State, Brazil.

Horizon: Pastos Bons Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Callovian Stage, Late Dogger Epoch, Late Middle Jurassic-Oxforidan Stage, Early Malm Epoch, Early Late Jurassic.

Material: An articualted but incomplete preserved specimen.
