Genus: Calypsoichthys ARGYRIOU, ALEXOPOULOS, CARRILLO-BRICENO & CAVIN, 2022
Etymology: The name of the genus is derived from the Homeric nymph Calypso and Greek, ichthys, "Fish": In Homer's Odyssey, Calypso charmed Odysseus and detinaed him on her island, Ogygia, for seven years. although Gavdos is only constestably identifed as teh Homeric Ogygia, one easily becomes capitavated by teh serene atmosphere of this romote island.

Etymology: In honor of the Greek vertebrate paleontologist and now retired professor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Dr. Parisis Pavlakis, for his contributions in the dissemination of paleobiology.

Holotype: AMPG_VTS_25

Locality: Vatsiana Quarry, an abandoned quarry, near the settlement of Vatsiana, 34°48'56.69"N, 24°6'21.50"E, Gavdos Island, Greece.

Horizon: Pindos Unit.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Mid-Late Maastrichtian Stage, Late Senonian Subepoch, Late Gulf Epoch, Late Cretaceous.

Material: Slab preserving both palatines, the left lower jaw and tracies of the opercle of the same individual.
