Genus: Calaichthys GOUIRIC-CAVALLI, ZAVATTIERI, GUTIERREZ, CARIGILINO & BALARINO, 2017
Etymology: Cala, refers to 'water' for a native population of the Cuyo region western of Argentina; it is an Allentiac voice of the aboriginal Huarpe languate, and Greek, ichthys, "fish."

Etymology: Tehul, refers to 'under the soil' for a native population of the Cuyo region western of Argentina; it is also an allentiac voice of the aboriginal Huarpe language.

Holotype: IANIGLA-Pv 321 a-b

Locality: Cuyo Basin, 32°55'48"S, 69°13'46.5"W, Mendoza Province, Argentina.

Horizon: From two differentlevels of the upper part of the Cerro de Las Cabras Formation, Uspallata Group.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Anisian Stage, Early Mid Triassic Epoch, Early Middle Triassic.

Material: An incomplete specimen, skull and anteriormost portion of the body but lacks a tail.

Paratypes:

IANIGLA-Pv 320 a-b: An inomplete speicmen preserving the skull and anteriormost portion of the body but lacks the caudal fin.

IANIGLA-Pv 322: An incomplete specimen which has the caudal, dorsal and anal fins but lacks the skull and anterior most portion of the body.
