Etymology: Latin, renovata (renovatus), "renewal": alluding to the remodelling of teh dermal skeleton of the species.

Locality: Shiqian-Tunping section at Leijiatun village, Shiqian County, Guizhou Province, China.
Horizon: Rongxi Formation.
Biostratigraphy: Ozarkodina guizhouensis conodont biozone.
Age: Late Aeronian Stage, Middle Lladovery Epoch, Early Silurian.
Material: Portiona of a venral (pinnal) shoulder girdle dermal plate fused to a fragmetn of a pectoral fin spine.
