Etymology: In reference to Civita di Pietraroia Cave, Benevento Province, Campania, southern Italy and Greek, souchus, "crocodile."

Etymology: In honor of Daniele Ormezzano, curator of the Museo Regionale di Scienze Naturali di Torino, who diligently cleanded one of the specimens.

Holotype: PC-1

Locality: 'Civita di Pietraroia Cave', locality of 'Civita di Pietraroia', Mt Matese, Benevento Province, Campania, southern Italy.
