Genus: Australosuchus WILLIS & MOLNAR, 1991
Etymology: The generic name is derived from the Latin Australis meaning southern and Latinzed Greek, suchus, "crocodile," the gender if masculine.

Species: clarkae WILLIS & MOLNAR, 1991
Etymology: In honor of Mrs. Elaine Clark in recognition of her continuing support for the Riversleigh Research Project.

Holotype: QM F16788

Locality: An unnamed site from the base of the eastern end of the bluff that yielded the Tedford Local Fauna and Tedford East Local Fauna, Lake Palankarinna, South Australia State, Australia.

Horizon: Etadunna Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Oligocene Epoch, Upper Paleogene Period- Miocene Epoch, Lower Neogene Period, Upper Tertiary Subera, Middle Cenozoic Era.

Material: An almost complete skull and mandible, incomplete cervical and dorsal vertebrae, scapula, humerus, and dermal armor.
