Etymology: Quechua native language, Zupay, "devil" and Greek, sauros, "lizard": Devil lizard.

Etymology: In honor of Dr. Guillermo Rougier, under whose direction the specimen was found and collected.

Holotype: PULR-076

Locality: Quebrada de los Jachaleros, 7 km west of National Route 126, La Rioja Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Upper levels of Los Colorados Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Upper Norian Stage, Upper Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skull and dentary lacking only the premaxillae, articulated posterior cervical and anterior dorsal vertebrae, 2 incomplete fused sacral vertebrae, the proximal end of the right scapula and coracoid, the distal ends of the right tibiae and fibula, the fused right astragalus and calcaneum, and proximal parts of two pedal unguals.
