Etymology: In honor of Juan A. Pisano, Argentine paleontologist, and Greek, sauros, “lizard”: “Pisano’s lizard”.

Etymology: In honor of the late Araucanian naturalist Carlos Merti.

Holotype: Laboratorio de Paleontologia de Vertebrados, Instituto Miguel Lillo, Tucuman, Argentina, No. 2577

Locality: Hoyada del Cerro Las Lajas, `Agua de las Catas', opposite Km 461 on Ruta Nacional no. 40, La Rioja Province, Argentina.

Horizon: Lower Middle Ischigualsto Formation.

Biostratigraphy:

Age: Carnian Stage, Lower Late Triassic Epoch, Late Triassic.

Material: Fragmentary skull and fragmentary skeleton. Fragmentary right maxilla, right lower jaw, 6 cervical, 7 dorsal vertebrae, fragmentary scapula, coracoid, molds of five sacral, fragmentary ilium, fragmentary pubis, fragmentary ischium, impression of 3 metacarpals, both femora, tibia, fibula, astragalus, the calcaneum, metatarsals III, and IV, 3 phalanges from metatarsal III and 4 metatarsals and ungual from metatarsal IV.
